Surprisingly good

I have never been a fan of Michael Caine but I have to admit that he is a fantastic actor. He gives a brilliant performance every time and never fails. He is the centre of this film. Without him it would not have the magic. I vaguely remember seeing this movie a few years ago but could not remember what it was about or even the climax. I happened to stumble upon a copy of the DVD in room which I had for a couple of years now.
Based on the novel from 1984 by a British author from 1984, the plot revolves around a marketing executive who after being denied promotion decides to kill people who make obstacles in his life. The last half an hour is the best part.
The film has a very noir atmosphere and there are many shades of the James Hadley Chase novel plot structures. This is what 90s cinema is all about. Interesting real stories with terrific acting combine to make an exciting film. It's a shame cinema like this is not made any more.

Totally agree.... this was a great little movie, unfortunately not well known.

Had you just seen it lately?

I saw this on TV some years ago....maybe like 10 years.... I would love to see it again but it's hard to find on DVD. There are some old copies (VHS) on Ebay. Maybe it's on Netflix. One of Caine's little gems.
(I also note that this is the exact kind of discussion that I will miss terribly when IMDB ends these message boards. It's great to connect with other film fans about movies, especially the lesser known ones.)

I see that there dvd copies of this film available on the british amazon site for 5 pounds. I feel that when Caine is in the main role, he gives a fantastic performance. As far as the message boards are concerned, we will just have to find an alternative. There are plenty of sites that others have mentioned but I don't think anything can match the quality of this site. 2 or 3 days before this shuts down I think it would be best to find out on the soapbox which site most of the users will migrate to.

If you liked this movie I could suggest 'Office killer 1999' and 'American psycho 2000'
