Discussing the Ending Film: Maybe Spoiler Movie Details

I don't understand very well these movie.

At the final, Sonja got she wanted: proved that she's right about the nazi past from that city and about some people living there, just like Professor Juckenack.

Of course she and her family had many problems during the movie, because many other people were involved in such a shame past and none of them would like to "remember" or show to the world their "sins" and past mistakes.

But I can tell (in my opinion) that she gradually becomes more and more obssessive about that subject (Holocaust, nazi past, Jewish hunting, etc) putting her safe/integrity and her family's in danger many times.

In the last 10 minutes about the film I got the impression that Sonja losed her mind and got crazy, her right senses, because she react suspiciously with everybody, maybe feeling some things that are not true in reality that this moment.

Do you think she has lose her mind at all? Or got mind sick?

Very nice movie. The subject is not original, but the director's view really interested me. :P

Thanks.

In the end she realized the townspeople were basically trying to finally shut her up by turning her into this big hero. Threatening her and her family didn't work, beating her didn't work, so they figured why not just give her what she wants i.e. hand over the preachers and then maybe she'll give up her quest and stop bothering and trying to dig up dirt on everyone else. They tried to give her the happy ending they thought she wanted.

Turns out she didn't want fame or attention, just to find the truth. And when even her parents seemed to go against her, maybe she did go a little crazy. That's how I interpreted that last shot, she running to the tree and looking like a scared cat that doesn't want to come down from it.

They tried to bribe her to keep her quiet and also so she would stop snooping into their past, and possible reveal some more of their dark secrets. She basically just got fed up with it all.

The story of the real life 'nasty girl', Anna Rosmus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Rosmus & http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20114744,00.html

Doesn't say much for the inhabitants of the German city of Passau, does it?

Amazing how that Nazi history was covered up. Sure the Germans made abstract gestures, but actual accountability was dodged and repressed. Maybe it had to be, unless the Aryans were going to be rounded up for extermination.

Maybe she got too obsessed maybe its true the people just wanted to shut her up.
Probably both.
After all this you can become paranoid.
