SPOILER ALERT: Most boring spy flick ever.

Mainly a travelogue of the poor old Soviet Union, made back when everyone would have expected it to be wildly different and exotic, if nothing else. Too bad (thanks to the ubiquitous dash cam videos on YouTube, etc.) we now know the whole country is about as exotic and exciting as the industrial district of Tacoma, Washington.

Tacoma is exciting. You however are not.

The manner in which the story was told made it difficult to follow. I didn't feel like I wasted two hours, so I guess that means it was worth the time I needed to watch it just this once.

reply

I disagree, the most boring spy film ever is the Bourne Trilogy... all non-sense action and no story, no theme, no espionage, a plot that made no sense, improbable situations, and no point... Good for a bit of a laugh, but not much.

I wish more films were made like the Russia House.

I think it it's very clear what's going on, but you have to wait until the end of the movie (when Barley is narrating his letter to "Nedski"). You're not supposed to get everything until this point. What a boring movie it would be if we weren't kept in the dark.

That's how all these John LeCarre books are. They are supposed to be more realistic and not the James Bond/Robert Ludlum type fantasy action spy movies.

I'm watching it at the moment, and am finding it quite interesting.
