5.9??

beautifully filmed & acted

what gives?

reply

People don't like beautifully filmed and acted movies--and even less so if they require attentiveness and thinking.

The only second chance you get is to make the same mistake twice. - David Mamet

Yes, this movie clearly deserves better than a 5.9 rating. It is perhaps too intelligent for the average audience.

Well come on, it's a spy movie without any explosions. Plus it only had a few swear words, gotta have a swear word in every scene to be a great film.

Plus, where was the CGI effects?

No car chase scenes?

Nobody jumped off of moving motorcycles into mid-air hand-to-hand combat either. I mean how realistic is it to have spies that don't do stuff like that?

Finally, no splattering blood. Ya gotta have at least one person get shot in the head at close range to qualify as a noteworthy movie.

I think gfcmov is pulling our legs! Wicked man!

Ya think?

Obviously, a lot of tykes watched this movie expecting it to be a spy-action-thriller and it turned out to be a spy-drama-romance.

reply

And yet people check IMDB's ratings to assess the worth of a film. Idiots!

reply

well, its a popularity contest and if ones taste meshes well with the general public's taste then the ratings work well. But I must say I was really surprised by how low the ratings on this film was.

a fair rating. the movie was to safe and lacked substance. great visuals and made me want to see more of this lavish country but that alone is not enough to warrant a better review. the movie played it very neutral and was hard to really root for a side. good actors involved but cared little for them and the potential outcomes of them all.

reply

Beautifully filmed, well acted – and yet I found the script and plotting monotonous. I gave this 6/10, which the largest voting bloc gave it.

This film illuminates the actual core issue in espionage better than any other film. When Sean Connery says "you are my country" it says it all -- and illuiminates just how much espionage really is, on many levels, a "matter of the heart". (same is true of Brandauer's character).

The Russian locations are also spectacular.......

Deserves to be seen on the big screen, where it is an immersive experience.

And not a gun to be seen in the whole movie!

You're right: No guns! That's very rare for a spy thriller.
