Hi Hookem -
Do you know "Hamlet"? I'd recommend the Kenneth Branagh version. R&G are his buds, and they get roped into the palace intrigue, but they're really out of their depth. At the very end of Hamlet, someone arrives to announce that "R&G are dead" - but its the end of the play and everybody is already dead, and so its become famous as such a pointless fate for them.

Tom Stoppard has taken the two guys and twisted the story around and put them at the center of it, but its all falling apart. Its brilliant, an amusing puzzle, and a philosophical statement all at the same time. If you like Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Prestige) you'll probably enjoy it. The acting by Oldman and Roth, the inventive staging and the (again) brilliant wordplay are amazing.

I was a ballerina! Graceful! DELICATE!

We read the play in Honors English back in the 70's & I loved it.
It's obviously better to read the source, but this film is good.
