Sly probably can't watch this for many reasons

Not only it being a generally bad movie, but the scenes with his actual son Sage playing Rocky's son - especially the last scene - must tear him up since the kid died. Probably informed the sadness of his latest outing as Rocky in Creed. What a heartbreaker.

Personally, I don't he cares about his son. I ain't judging but that's my guess. Also check out the directors cut of this movie and let me know what you think.

What gives you that idea? To cast his own son as his movie son meant they had quite a strong relationship. I think you're completely wrong about that.

reply

Well, he was close to his son back in the early 90s and 1996, which were the years both movies came out (Rocky V) and (Daylight) sage starred in both. However, when sly married Jennifer his son got pushed away, not very softly. He was abandoned.. Not that I'm saying all of this is true just from rumor's and the internet. Stallone hardly mentions sage even at the golden globe and his other son.

I doubt Stallone would ever admit, one way or another, But I've always felt that the father/son dynamic in Rocky Balboa about " a big shadow" might be what played into Sly/Sage falling out. The fact that we know Rocky Balboa mirrors Stallone's real life in many ways, I'm more prone to believe that.

I know Sly isn't a saint and he even writes that into the Rocky films, but I tend to believe it wasn't all one sided. I can't imagine what it would be like to be Sly, or worse, to be Sly's kid and have to deal with the pressures of "living up".

He mentioned in interviews and the commentary on RB that he didn't cast Sage in the role of Rocky's son in Rocky Balboa because he didn't want people to read too much into it. Since the whole story with Rocky's son is that he feels he is living in his father's shadow, Stallone didn't want people to think that was what was going on with him and Sage.

Yeah, I have heard that and heard the interviews, but it's possible Sage didn't want his father using the film to showcase their own relationship, so Sly stated otherwise. But if every other Rocky mirrors the emotions going through Sly's head, to all of a sudden say the last one was just "made up" is a bit of a stretch. Ya KNOW?

I remember around the time of Rocky Balboa reading that Sly did offer Sage the chance to come back as Rocky's son but Sage turned it down. I do think they had a complicated relationship but I don't think Sly hated Sage.

I read the story about when Sly was first told of Sage's death. He was at an event promoting Expendables II. They then found a room where no media could get to Sly and he reportedly sat in a chair and wept uncontrollably.

There was also a nice little tribute scene to Sage in Creed. And there was a deleted scene that takes things a bit further with Rocky looking at an album with photos from his past. You can see the emotion on Sly's face that I think went a little beyond just acting.

Yeah, Im with you! No way Sly hated his own son. It was complicated for sure and it's probably how most celebrity families end up. All the money and success, man, I can't imagine what that's like. And at the end of the day, don't think I would want any part of it either.

Do you have a link to these scenes?

I was always confused about how Sage could suddenly die from a heart attack at still a relatively young age of 36. Reportedly, Sage was a heavy smoker (at least two packs a day) which was compounded by his knack for drinking sugary soda and a being diagnosed with a heart murmur at age 10.

Sly didn't talk about them because he respects their privacy. His son Seargeoh has autism and the paparazzi kind of stuff is no life for him. Sly's daughters are well... they're teenage/young adult girls, so... they want the attention.

Sadly, Sly and Sage did have a falling out, chiefly because of the thing going on with Rocky and Rocky Jr. in "Rocky Balboa." Sly did offer the part to his son again, but Sage turned him down. There was an interview somewhere with Sage where he said "No more Rocky for me."

When "Rocky Balboa" was finished and had its premiere, Sly had to beg Sage to come to it. He told him "I want you to hear what I have to say to you." When the movie was over, the two reconciled.

This information is compiled from interviews and eyewitnesses who were there.

I don't think he hated his son I think if you watch Creed I think he mentions his son in that movie with a picture of them on top of Polly's dresser kind of like thinking about it it feels like he was paying homage to his son
