MUCH better than "Creed"

To me, "Creed" was nothing more than an overrated rehash of the first Rocky movie. I still don't get why people are going on and one about how great it is and that it should have gotten Oscar nods etc. blah blah

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

A decent movie nonetheless. You prefer this artificial attempt to recreate the mood of the first movie? V should have dealt with Rocky's decline in the ring and how he dealt with it, not brain damage and being poor again.

Yeah, Rocky V was definitely better than Creed, and it was also better than Rocky Balboa as well. I don't care if Rocky fights in the ring in Rocky Balboa - the streetfight with Tommy is still ten times better.

What Rocky V did better than those two aforementioned movies is simple - it had better acting and better scripts. Rocky V had the full original cast and at their peak (Talia Shire should've got an Oscar nomination for her performance - she's that good in those scenes where she rallies Rocky to give up boxing and then later to pay more attention to Rocky Jr). Rocky V also had Bill Conti returning for the score and John Avildsen doing a great job directing. It was a great ensemble of talent, the last time they assembled this caliber of people in a rocky film.

Furthermore, the opening recap of Rocky IV in this movie, soundtracked to Bill Conti's legendary 'Conquest' theme, is just awesome. The brain-damage subplot resulting from the fight with Drago is a cool link with the previous film and it is also interesting. Having Rocky back in the old neighborhood being a boxing manager is a nice evolution for his character. Sage Stallone was tremendous as Rocky Jr - exactly the type of son you'd see Rocky having: tough but sensitive.

One more thing - Rocky V was funnier than Creed and Rocky Balboa. Part V is underrated in terms of how many great lines there are. Also, Rocky Jr beating up the kids who were picking on him was a classic scene, too, so funny.

Even with its flaws I do think Rocky V is somewhat underrated and still entertaining. But it's not better than Rocky Balboa or Creed.

I respectfully disagree. For one, the tone of Rocky V matches up closer to the tone of Rocky I & II, far more so than Rocky VI & Creed does (thanks to the cinematography, lighting, music etc), thus Rocky V just feels more like an actual Rocky film than they do.

Stallone was still in his prime when he made Rocky V, thus to me the movie just feels stronger than any subsequent Rocky efforts for that very reason alone. Having the dynamic of Rocky, Adrian and Paulie all there (the Luke, Leia and Han of the Rocky series) was a deal clincher, too. Rocky Balboa & Creed just couldn't match that standard. The characters are the most important thing in Rocky. No Adrian in the 6th movie? Not the same. Adrian was HUGE in this movie, as was Rocky Jr. Rocky Jr was a prick in Rocky 6.

I'm sorry Rocky V is terrible. Creed introduced Rocky to a whole new generation. My generation. Thanks to it, I've seen a lot of Sly's work and yes I watched all the Rocky movies. And yes Rocky V is bad. Creed was excellent. My dad has been a fan of the series for a long time and loved Creed, along with my grandpa, who saw the first Rocky in theaters.

I enjoyed creed but it was pointless. Everything should have ended with V or Balboa. Nobody wants to see Rocky even more lonely with the death of Paulie and his son leaving him. And *beep* cancer? That was an on going joke when rocky balboa came out. So stupid. Yeah its good drama, but damn. Let Rocky get some peace

The cancer subplot was like something you'd see in a soap opera, from the way Adonis discovered the truth after inexplicably going through Rocky's coat pockets and then all the ensuing melodrama of Rocky hiding it from everyone.

Rocky V's drama was genuine and better acted and written. It's why this film trumps Rocky Balboa and Creed easily.

I think Rocky's cancer battle in Creed was mainly put in so he'd have some type of obstacle to overcome as well. Perhaps Creed's director/writer Ryan Coogler felt that having Rocky just train Adonis Creed wasn't interesting enough.

Was Creed an absolutely necessary film? No. But do I think it was generally well done and well acted? Yes.

Creed was great. V was redeemed by the street fight and the music playing in the street fight.

It's much better than Rocky Balboa..
