Petition for Avildsen to release his cut of ROCKY V.

Can we start a petition so Avildsen can at least consider to release his version of ROCKY V? I know there was a petition before and it was unsuccessful but can we try to do it again and spread it everywhere? what do you guys think?

I hope it will happen someday

What is different about Avildsen's cut?

reply

Alot. All different music. No rap, just classic rocky and a great song from michael bolton called "when I'm back on my feet again. It cuts a couple scenes, but adds a ton of new footage. The movie just feels really different, quite a bit of a darker tone and scenes. Their are alternate scenes and quite a bit of new camera angles, & dialog. The street fight is much better and has differentfootage that is perfect. Avildsens cut was what he wanted and how it was suppose/going to be but then the producers got their hands on it and turned a great movie to a decent movie. Most fans, like me, agree this is the real Rocky V and its above and beyond the theatrical cut

I agree. I remember when I saw Rocky V for the first time. It was depressing and I hated it. Then, a few years ago, I saw the workprint. It was an entirely different film, and a much better one. It was obvious that Stallone played Rocky differently. He plays him more straight then completely brain damaged. At the end of the fight when he helps Tommy up after beating him, I think it makes more of a statement since he does not hold personal animosity towards Tommy and shows he has a long way to go to being a people's champion.

Exactly. Well said

I think the ultimate Rocky V would be to take the best elements of the alternate cut and combine them with the best elements of the theatrical version. Probably will never happen but it would be cool if it did.

I agree with you, jsl_99. What I would hope they do is take the Workprint and use it as the primary base, but coherently add in some of the more fleshed out elements from the theatrical version.

There are a few scenes in the theatrical that had more dialogue, such as:

-the scene when Rocky is told by the doctor about the extent of his brain damage

-the scene when Rocky and Adrian encounter Duke on the street

^Aside from a few cases like those, just about everything else is superior in Avildsen's Workprint.

How did some of you see the workprint?? Is it available anywhere to purchase?

reply

Nope. Type in rocky v screener on Google. It's divided into 6 parts

The audio cuts out toward the middle of each part. Any suggestions? Gotta see this!!!

I recall seeing it on Youtube!

I agree, its a GOOD cut..not sure if i'd say BETTER, but does feel like a different Rocky V. The final fight in the workprint is DEFINITELY more like Rocky then the theatrical cut (Rocky doesn't swing on Tommy first for starters...and as mentioned, at the very end he helps Tommy up).
