True Story

The following really happened:

I was in Paris when this film came out and was walking by a Cinema near the Pompidou Centre. This cinema has about 8 screens and you can get in for half price if you go attend a screening before 12 noon.

Well since they show 8 films about 5 minutes apart, they have the customers wait outside in something like cattle chutes for each film, and not surprisingly for fans of this film, there were about 25 people waiting to get into Riff-Raff, and about nobody waiting to watch the other films.

It was quite cold that morning and so you had all these people waiting out in the cold, rubbing their arms, moving up and down, trying to keep warm, waiting to see this one film.

Now here's the funny part, when finally the lady came out to announce they could come in from the cold to buy tickets, she opened the door, motioned with her hand and said, "Okay, Riff-Raff!" to which the crowd came a running.

To these french movie-goers she was just announcing the name of the film. To me, it seemed like she was calling them all riff-raff! I was looking around to see if there were other any english-speakers who caught this too, but it was only me. I had a good laugh I must say, and I went back to see the film the following day.

Great Film.

riff-riff comes from the french language, i've just learned, so the rest of the 25 probly got it too.
