What makes this movie 'so violent'?
I haven't seen it but the doubt is consuming me, `cause everyone say that this movie is so violent and not nice and gory and all that... someone tell me why the movie holds that reputation please, thanks

shareThe inhuman beatings, also the cruelty to women as depicted in it.........though I know people may have different opinion, so, not "everybody" would call it violent.
what who told you this? its not very violent at all, theres certainly not a lot of it, which is odd as the film is called revenge....
Even the most primitive society has an inate respect for the insane
You must be very de-sensitized to violence. There are several brutal beatings, several murders, an attempted rape, and the scary forced addiction.
Nope...not violent at all.
***POSSIBLE SPOILER***
Agreed. Another example of "non-violence" is recluding one's wife in a brothel converting her in a sexual slave.
And of course there's always the bit where the labrador gets blown away with a shotgun from point blank range. If seeing a lovable dog blown back six feet against a wall with two bullet holes in its chest isn't deemed gory and violent then I don't know what is. I like the film though, even if it's a bit slow going at the start.

its a violent movie but that isnt the biggest part of it. it just feels that way. the reason it feels that way is simply because of anthony quinns (as usual)brilliant performance. he just makes you feel like he is ruthless, powerful, and unstoppable, and thats before the beating and killing even starts. the way he talks, the way he laughs, that face... pure greatness, his natural features make him one of my favorite actors ever.
shareHilarious? what the hell? That *beep* was messed-up animal brutality at its worst! They obviuosly didn't shoot the dog for real, but it sure looked that way. Fake or real, I don't find it one damn but funny, (let alone "hilarious"). Does that mean you'd laugh if you saw something like that right in front of you? Hey pal, here's a quarter BUY A HEART!
shareFrom the very beginning of the film you know that it's not wise to screw with Quinn's character - Tibby. Jay is told that by his Navy buddy, sees that when he enters the gates at Tibby's estate (armed guards) and is alluded to by Tibby himself when we first see him on the tennis court. From the very first killing after dinner, to killing Jay’s dog, the vicious beating of Jay and burning down his home and slashing his young pretty wife’s face and banishing her to the brothel to become a prostitute it’s all grisly dark violence. Then you have Jay coming back and viciously killing his attackers along with his two new “friends”.
shareI think this movie holds a reputation of being an extremely violent movie is mostly due to the tone of the film. The onscreen violence isn't really that bad compared to most action films.
The movie is very dark & oppressive with the characters really playing for keeps. There's little humour or lightweight elements in the script.
