Quinn's revenge

how bad is the Quinn's character revenge, i mean, i know that his wife get's cut in the face or something?... and that costner get's beat up... is it that explicit?... 'cause he survives later to get his revenge... what happens anyway?

reply

Quinn's character is ruthless, but he values friendship/loyalty and was probably "broken-hearted" by his wife and friend's betrayal.

He does slash Madeliene Stowe's character from mouth to ear on one side of the face and his henchmen gave Kevin Costner's character probably one of the more brutal cinematic beatdowns.

Oh, yeah, they shot his dog...now that's going too far!

reply

well Mireya (Madeleine Stowe's character) get`s a cut in the left side of her face, from mouth to ear... it's not that explicit though (ala Black Dahlia), Tibey's hit her with a small knife and we hear the sound of it (ewww) and then we see her face covered with blood.
Jay (Costner's character) get's pick up, thrown against a wall by a big guy and then another guy get's him up, hold him by the arms and the other big guy does all the dirty job (the knee against Jay's face... ouch, not to mention the punches in the stomach)... that beatdown it's pretty grafic, it seems to me that in the full screen version of the DVD the action looks more real... I mean... in the widescreen version, the camera it's almost to close to the characters... in the other version the camera focuses in all the scenario, without the multiple camera angles it would looked pretty real.
and finally, yes, Rock (Jay's dog) get`s shot with, what I think it's a riffle... by the big guy who beats Jay... (does he had to kill his dog anyway?? ¬¬)

reply

Don't forget those 3-4 solid kidney punches to Jay (when he was trying to hold himself up on the bedpost) and, finally, with him laying on the floor, the big guy stomping his boot on Jay's hand, crushing it.

My wife is a Costner fan and still refuses to watch that scene...

reply

The dog is the first one to go. It gets a 12 gauge buckshot up against the wall. Its pretty sick. But other than that, the beatdown was mild compared to some other movies.

reply

Personally I think it is one of the more realistic and brutal beatings I have ever seen in a movie. Half a dozen shots from the big guy would have a devestating effect on someone. You know the these scenes where someone goes at it and ends up with a trickle of blood in the corner of his mouth.
I cringe every time I see that scene!

Here's a clip from youtube, minus the hand crushing:

And this one is from the television show CSI - it's even more brutal than some movie scenes, I thought.

Without question, it's one of the most brutal ass-whippings I've ever seen, and the crunching the hand really had me cringing. Then, afterwards, they just toss him out of the car like garbage in the middle of the mexican desert.

I wonder if Costner's kids ever seen the scene. I think it might possibly have an absolutely devastating effect on them.

reply

I'm sure his ex-wife enjoyed it immensely. LOL :)

reply

Love it!!

reply

Amazingly, the hand-stomping is not in the director's cut.

It's one of the most "memorable" and powerful scenes in the original film.

reply

Let's not forget what else happens to Madeline's character! That is brutal in its own way.
Jeremiah 29:11-13

reply

Yeah, Miryea gets slashed in the face. Then she gets shot up with heroin and sold into prostitution! I call that pretty fracking bad!

reply

both the wife and Jay deserved it. I got no sympathy for them. And Quinn is not smart enough to finish Jay off.

reply

Well...

Cheating on your husband with his friend, or having an affair with your friend's wife is a pretty sleazy thing to do, but it hardly justifies violence, facial mutilation, and forced prostitution.

Divorce the wife with no money and never speak to the friend again.

reply

I guess Costner ending up with his love dying in his arms is pretty bad revenge.

And I agree with homer-89 and anyone else who might have mentioned it, shooting his dog was pretty bad. Remember, that was sort of the unforgivable sin forMark Wahlberg in Shooter.

reply

The movie is on now. I still think the violent scene in the cabin with Stowe and Costner was extreme violence. For some reason I liked the movie, late 80s Costner!
