Who here saw this as a kid, and had no knowlege it was a sequal?

Cause it happened to me, it was one of the earlier Disney films I own on VHS, and didn't know it was a sequal to an older movie. Which I did discover like 6 years after seeing this one. So as you can imagine I was like "Wait you're telling me there was a Rescuers movie made before Down Under?" and felt backwards when I did watch the original. So did anyone else felt the same way upon discovering the original?

I saw this one before 'The Rescuers'. I think I did know it was a sequel though. I saw rescuers a couple years later. Personally I like 'Down Under' better. Although the Rescuers was good too. John Candy and George C. Scott made the second one awesome though. Plus any of the scenes with Frank. My favorite character from The Rescuers was Evinrude (the little bug that propels them through the bayou). That little dude was awesome.

I agree enitrely, which is why I recently got the 2 movie Blu-ray edition of both movies cause they are both must have Disney movies.

Same here OP.

Internet Trolls don't get a rise out of people, only sympathy.

reply

Yep. I had no idea. I just accepted it as it was, and had no idea it was a sequel.

I'm in the same boat. I saw the sequel first. When I watched the first one years later, I didn't think it was nearly as action packed or breath taking as this one.

I had knowledge of the first one but didn't see it. I'd only ever seen Rescuers Down Under until today, when I bought the 2 movie pack and watched the first one for the first time. Of course I like Down Under better because it's the one i've grown up with for most of my life.

I thought the same thing, I didn't see the original movie until like four or five years afterwards and didn't find it as enjoyable as this one, today I still prefer this one over the original the story's just more exciting, it's more action packed and suspenseful, and funnier.

Same here. And again, I greatly prefer this one to the original. It's funnier, and John Candy and George C. Scott really bring their A game to this. In fact, Percival McLeach is a good a character as Scott has ever played.

reply

Yeah, I was only three when this came out, but I still remember seeing it in the theaters. I didn't know it was a sequel until many years later. I've only seen the original once, yet I have the sequel on VHS.

somehow my mother managed to buy me the films in "order" - so I watched the rescuers first but grew up with the "down under" merchandise

but it has to do with the fact that my mother "grew up" with the first movie

reply

Yep, I saw this one first. I actually thought The Rescuers was the sequel until I watched it and thought, ohhhh.

Straightedge means I'm better than you.

I have no idea how old I was when I first watched this (probably 5 or something, it came out when I was 1), but I also never realized it was a sequel until I got older. I'm 25 now and still haven't seen the original and don't want to. I like pretending it's a solo movie. ;)
