Dogs on a hanger?

I re-watched this recently and saw the scene where Fanny goes into the closet to grab a new animal. Several little dogs were hanging up by the skin on their back. Could you imagine if this was made nowadays? PETA would've set someone on fire. The dogs didn't appear to be hurt in any way, but it reminded me of how different filmmaking was about 20 years ago.
