William Shatner Connections?

I'm getting a weird vibe from this movie suggesting that somehow William Shatner was somehow connected behind the scenes. The female star is Heather Thomas from TJ Hooker. The Dr. Acula role is played by Christopher Plummer, whom Shatner understudied with and later appeared in STAR TREK VI. The production is also Canadian. Huh.
