I agree that Nick was amazing as this truly scary mofo, but my fave NN role is Ray Hicks, in 'Who'll Stop the Rain?'

The scene where Al tells him that anything he says to him from then on is on the Q&A, the look on Brennan's face, the way his expression changes, the way Brennan touches Al's face as he says, "I gotta stand here and take this sh*t from Kevin Reilly's boy? I wish you were dead . . ." It's such a scary moment. I especially love Nolte's decision (or whoever's idea it was) to touch him on the face while he's delivering the line. It just adds to the menace. And the way he delivers the line quietly.

It's a great performance, and it's a crime Nolte didn't get a nomination for Best Actor.

More great scenes:

-Brennan meets with the mob boss. He argues with one of the mobsters and rips the guy's shirt right off of his chest.

-His encounter with the female impersonator. Creepy and scary.

Armand Assante is also really good in this movie.

"Lubin! You f**ckin, Matzoh-eater! What the *beep* took you so long???"

Nolte was classic, his best performance, as detestable as he was, you still felt his pain.
