Bobby Tex or Carlito Brigante (Spoilers)

Both books (Q&A and Carlito's Way) written by the same author. I personally think that they are basically the same charactor in both movies, both hispanic NY smack dealers and also physical look very similar. In addtion both charactor die at the end becasue of self inficted misteps.

Although I loved AL Pacino's Carlito deeper charactor overall with fears, dreams, emotions and fiece crazy loylaty, I believe AA's Bobby Tex is truer to the streets and the reality of street life. He is just so smooth and sure of himself. This is just a great role for Assante and he lets it all hang out.

What do you think?

My father is the author of both books and i will show him your comments about the characters. I will tell you though, he never saw the similarities between both these characters though. Thank you for caring enough to write about it.

You're not gonna believe this but I stood before your father before, he was a NYS Surpreme Court Judge and I was a defendant.
He showed mercy on me and I straighted up my life and never when back to drugs. or crime, I later found out he wrote these stories.

I will never forget you dad, a tough but very wise Judge of people and character, God bless him.

I read After Hours in a very short time,I haven't read Q & A, but I'll try and get my hands on both soon. Q & A and Carlitos way are both awesome. Both show that Hispanic loyalty (sometimes to a fault!) . Carlito's Way is my favorite movie, and I just got finished watching Q& A for the 8th time.Tell Judge Torres he's my favorite author. Any new stuff in the near future?

Gee, I am a little late in replying only by years. I never saw this. So sorry. Anyway, yes, he wrote a script called Pleasant Avenue about the heroin trade in the 40's and 50's in Spanish Harlem. Hope it gets made! Thank u for reading and enjoying his books. I will be sure to tell him. He will love to hear it.
All the best,

Your Dad is awesome, my only gripe is he should have written more!

He held a critical role in the judicial system at a time when NYC was at its lowest point and judges and prosecutors like him were few and far between. I like to think gentlemen like Mr. Torres (and Felix Rohatyn) are the reason our city survived.

So I wish he had written more because that traumatic time I lived in NYC needs to be documented for history.

I read Q&A and then watch it once a year because although I moved to Florida many years ago (to be with other New Yorkers) it is still one of the most accurate portrayals of NYC ever made.

Hats off to a great man!

"Both show that Hispanic loyalty".

Like the way Guzman`s character was loyal to Carlito?

And to whom was this Texador guy in Q&A so terribly loyal?
