The Ending

The ending was pretty confusing...was she dead?...she looked pretty lifeless..or were those two rings on her hand supposed to mean something?

I saw this film on TV a coupla months back, it was on late so I was dozing off, I just stayed awake to see the end and from what I could tell and going with the theme of the film as a tragedy, it looked like he was speaking to her on the beach without realising that she had been assasinated.

Wow, I never thought of that!. But no, she's alive with the bodyguard on duty. He got up to protect her when Hutton approached. What I liked was that this completed the "no Hollywood ending". They left it hanging. Would she reach out, or tell him to go away. But she didn't move her hand. Another thing that's great about the internet is we can ask the writer what happened. I did that with the guy tha wrote "Enemy Mine" and got an answer. Way cool!

i thought of checking it out a bit but got around to see very little of it, when i first saw about it i thought nolte would have the hero role, i tell you something frightning, i tuned in to see if the movie was over, and i thought it seemed pretty violent for a 1990 movie, then i noticed it was a new drama series.. how about that.

the train just left with another load,
bye bye, as the whistle blow,
i let you on hold,
and i didn't realise you would go,
you raced right through while the brain didn't know,
so here i sit now,
unknowing i was the last time,
uportunitys that vanish when put on hold,
the clock merciless i've grown to know,
gold got sent on with the rail,
mr conductor, why do you take everything away,
there were things to say,
and deals to be made,
but you haul and time made it break,
standing here with a construction map as the whistle blow,
didn't realise you would go.

The ending felt like Reilly's fantasy. Since Reilly's efforts of justice had been quashed, he focused on his lost love to re-motivate himself. Though considering Nancy's distant response, even Reilly's fantasies were destroyed by the tragic reality he had found himself in.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

The ending in the theatrical cut was an obvious setup for a sequel. Thus the ambiguity, especially the Yacht. Relations went very sour, so we'll never know.

I was past caring.

The ending fits the theme of the movie. It's all in the Q&A...

I love the movie...However, Jenny Lumet can't act to save her life.

Pity, too, because she's smokin'!
More than we can say for Coppola's daughter--except that she's a good director.

I thought Hutton was awful too and the film confused itself.
