This Puppet Master II DVD Sucks

I just payed a large amount of good hard earned money for the Full Moon box set. Sure full moon has never been really good at offering great picture but they are acceptable. All the movies in the box set are acceptable except for Puppet Master II. The picture is just rancid. To top it off towards the end of the film the DVD becomes defective and the picture gets all wavey. A terrible DVD. The box set would have been worth it if it weren't for Part II's defect. Everyone I talk to that owns the box set has the same defect. Grrr....

My DVD in the boxed set doesn't have the problem either. It must be a glitch in your DVD.

you could buy another puppet master 2 dvd...plus...if you think of it...the boxset is worth it anyways...to buy all of them seperately would put you over 100 dollars if you bought them new...plus...you could simply purchase the 2nd one on dvd seperately with warranty...that way you can replace it...or a preowned copy even works as long as its official and not a bootleg...

I've got the U.S box set and my Puppet Master II disc doesn't mess up, I also bought the U.K set with Puppet Master: The Legacy and the Puppet Master II U.K disc doesn't have any problems.

The picture's fine on mine, it's just that you hear a woman screaming when it gets to the disc menu. It just puts you in a "WTF WAS THAT?!" state of mind. It's just completely unnecessary.

It looks like the transfer for II was taken from a PAL mastertape. But it seems that the Puppet Master II clips used in Puppet Master: The Legacy was taken from a different/NTSC source.

Let's just hope in '09 they relasee a SE of The PM Series with II having a better transfer. Now, I have a few questions:

1. Does the UK DVD have a better transfer than the US DVD
2. Does anyone remember seeing the film on Monsters HD? And if so, was the transfer better than the DVD?

Thanks for your cooperation. :)

I got the Midnight Horror Collection DVD from Echo Bridge. 1 is in widescreen, 2 still looks to be the same crappy transfer (fullscreen), and 3 is fullscreen.

I got that one, but haven't got around to watching 2 yet. Guess I have another reason to hold onto the VHS.

Charles Band been re-mastering his movies; Puppet Master 1, last year and Subspecies, this year. So, I'm guessing this one will be getting a remaster sooner than later

reply

Probably. Surprised he hasn't released an ultimate blu-ray collection yet.

Charles Band is almost completely independent, he is responsible for the quality of the product, and mostly distributing it. He said on the introduction for the remastered Puppet Master dvd, that it can be quite costly, so releasing more than one at a time seems like a gamble, financially.

reply

He's got distribution deals with other companies, but I guess they don't see much promise in a blu-ray release yet. Or haven't gotten around to blu-ray themselves.

Full Moon making another Puppet Master (Puppet Master X: Axis Rising) this year, so fingers crossed that Puppet Master II will get a widescreen re-release.

Yes, the Puppet Master 2 DVD sucks. It doesn't just suck, it's completely offensive to the industry. For those who don't know, Charles Band is one of the most despicable characters in Hollywood. He's well known for scamming, stealing, and swindling people out of money. He exploits his D level "celebrity" status to no end, and put simply -should never have been involved in the movie business in the first place. He was born into it, and disgraces his family's name with each sad attempt to profit from his 0 talent. The man is a *beep*!ng hack. He's got to be the only idiot in Hollywood selling bootleg versions of movies he claims to be under 'his' ownership. Though you can't really claim any of the Paramount titles 'his' movies, as they were properly produced with Paramount's standards in place. When he was black listed from the studio for embezzlement, he lost access to the system that made his movies enjoyable. The guy now takes VHS copies of his movies, transfers them to DVD, then sells them like they're a valid DVD release to distribution companies like Echo Bridge. Paramount would likely lose more money to sue the guy than it's worth, but man... I really just want to see him either exit Hollywood completely or in jail.

I have the Echo Bridge 9-movie collection and the quality for Part II wasn't very good but I didn't care too much. I'm not the type of person who has to have everything in widescreen and the best high definition money can buy. As long as I have the film and can see and hear well enough to tell what is going on, I am satisfied. The box set only cost $5 for 9 films from the series (plus the first 3 Killjoy movies on top of that) so I can't complain.

Death lives in the Vault of Horror!

I have that as well. No special features, but a great deal anyway. I have yet to watch 2 on DVD. I always find myself watching the VHS.
