There is a situation which it is always funny for me, Richard Gere and Julia Robert's are in some store, and he says something like " we need that you are very, very polite to us" the man in the store answered something like " you are in the right place (or city )for that"

What did say Richard Gere exactly in that moment?

Sucking up is a phrasal verb. It means getting someone´s approval by doing/saying things that are pleasing to them even if its insincere. It does not necessarily mean to "be polite".
