Could the film have worked if they had swapped the male actors?
Imagine if Jason Alexander had been cast as Edward Lewis and Richard Gere as Philip Stuckey. Could the film have worked, and if not, why not?

Of course then you'd have the problem of him matched with a waaay hotter female. But that's a problem that has never bothered hollywood anyway.
