Vivian spitting the gum out

I was wondering about the scene where Vivian spits her gum out on Rodeo Drive, and narrowly misses a woman walking past....or does she actually get her? Anyway, was this supposed to show her as a fun loving "free spirit" or something? Because I thought it was really obnoxious and gross. Was anybody else bothered by it?

hello?

Um, no. To answer your question, it didn't bother me at all. It was a great character moment, revealing how much more liberated a woman like Vivien is, compared to the stuff shirt yuppie asses around her. And she spit her gum, narrowly missing a woman's ass.

Given the use emergence of so many tattoos popping up, why are people still discriminating against peoples' mannerisms??

so....if someone wanted to prove that they were liberated by spitting their gum out and almost hitting your Mom with it...that wouldn't bother you?

I don't think as viewers we're supposed to be impressed by it, I think it's illustrating that Vivian is the type of person who hasn't learnt that it's pretty rude to do that and/or she doesn't really care about offending people. Plus it's just a moment of light comedy.

People were giving her nasty looks. So it just happened that those two women were looking at her when she spat the piece of gum at them.

I think it was meant to delight the audience - see a "regular" person stick to the snobs on Rodeo Drive, especially with the rude boutique staff still fresh on everyone's mind. But I agree with you - obnoxious and gross.

Yes I didn't like that bit either. It was nasty
