Why didn't the killer get rid of the bloody hammer (spoilers)

Forgive me if this question has been answered earlier but I just recently saw the film.

The killer seemed to cover all the bases yet leaves the bloody hammer around with evidence on it. Why not just sterilize it and discard it somewhere.

Their answer to you is deleted. What did they say?

Probably to keep it as a trophy!!!

The whole ending was a lie. The killer wanted to frame Rusty all the way to jail. It's the only reason to keep the weapon.

In the end, I thought it was obvious the wife had tried to frame Rusty. She was bitter as hell. But throughout the ordeal, she came to realize and accept that Rusty really did love her. So when her attempt to frame him ultimately failed and he was found innocent, she was more or less OK with that. But she was also OK with him discovering that she was the killer. She was mental.

If I were him, I'd be very afraid.

The killer (Barbara) was trying to frame her husband, Rusty. The police just failed to find it during their search of their house.
