Why did the Predator kill King Willie?

I have been a big fan of this franchise since I first saw the original and its sequel when I was a kid. I know the alien does not kill anyone who isn't armed. However, in this film the Predator attacks King Willie, but why? If I remember correctly, Willie wasn't strapped and he didn't brandish his blade until the alien revealed himself by stepping through those puddles of water. Was this a mistake by the writer, was it because the Predator was listening to their conversation and felt that Willie knew too much, or was it because IT wanted to frighten Karrigan? Also, I am considering watching AVP. Is it really as bad as everyone says it is? I already dislike the pg-13 rating so I am very skeptical, but is it worth watching once? (if not, will alcohol help me tolerate it more? seriously haha) I sincerely hope The Predator takes this franchise back to its roots.

Alright that makes sense. Where can I find the script?

Yeah, it's a goof. King Willie isn't armed until the Predator attacks. Danny wasn't armed either until the Predator jumped him in the penthouse. The Predator also attacked the subway probably without seeing anyone with guns (it was on the roof, unless it has x-ray vision). Dick moves. The Predator also never killed Harrigan at the start of the movie when he pointed a gun straight at him on the rooftop. Lots of inconsistencies but I guess it doesn't matter as long as you're entertained.

In this movie they bent a lot of rules from the original about the Predator's hunting etiquette. It's best just to ignore it and just enjoy the film but either the writing was sloppy or they decided that the Predator was now an alien killer instead of an alien hunter.

My name is Hendry William French

Its not a goof.

The Predator has been hunting both gangs having engaged both. We have to accept that the Predator has a basic understanding of English and it knew that King Willie knew something was out there hunting his gang, and had just confirmed it to Harrigan.

The Predator also knew that King Willie would defend himself, hence why he was killed.

Harrigan was being taunted by the Predator for most of the movie,.

Danny was armed. When he is approaching the apartment building in the parking lot he hears a noise and you can see him reaching for his holster under his suit jacket. He looks up and around and hears nothing so he stops reaching and continues approaching the buildings entrance. Later when he's hanging upside down you can see the gun in his shoulder holster.

In the subway scene even the cops notice that all the people the predator attacked in the subway were armed thats actually the point when they realize the predator is a sports hunter.

As for not attacking harrington the predatorwasn't sure who he was. The predator typically stalks people for a while before attacking then. The predator knew the targets he had selected in the Vodoo and the scorpio gang but harrington was too new to attack straight off the bat. You see this behavior were the predator follows his targets around for a while before striking in predator 1 as well, he also didn't attack harrington in the graveyard either.

The Predator had been going after Willie's men for a while. He recognized the hierarchy and this was his chance to get a BIG trophy.

reply

Exactly

It was working its way up the gang's hierarchy, then spotted Harrigan and decided to do the same with his elite squad

People forget that this is an intelligent being, not a programmed video game AI

I thought there general consensus was this was a "rogue" predator that didn't follow code...which is why Danny Glover was spared in the space ship

reply

Maybe

But I figured he was spared because he beat his hunter in personal combat

They gave him a trophy to reward him - it was a flintlock pistol from Harrigan's own planet to avoid giving the humans too much info about the predators themselves

reply

He was spared in the ship cause the predators recognized his skill as a hunter being that he survived an attack by a predator and released him. We assume this is apart of their culture. I knew a hunter that had a 3 round policy that if a deer can get a way after being fired on 3 times he just lets it go. Weird I know but I don't pretend to understand hunters. Instead of letting herrington have the predator as a trophy they gave him a replacement trophy of the hundred year old pistal or what ever that relic was.

I always figured it was cause the predator knew king willi was the leader of the very violent vodoo possie gang still making his head a valuable trophy. The Predator approached slowly as if he was trying to provoke king willie to attack him. King willie draw his blade and we then poof we only see the aftermath of the fight. We don't even get to see who attacked first or how the fight went.
