What song is Christine Singing Backstage?

Hi -

Just after Christine is left alone in her backstage "bedroom" by the kindly Jean-Claude, she's so happy to be at the opera/have a place to stay that she starts to sing as she bustles around, picking up dusty vases, admiring the ambience, etc.

She then drifts onto the empty stage, still humming the song to herself.

It's while she's singing this that Erik first hears her voice. He's in front of a mirror (masked, of course) and is naturally enthralled...

The first lyrics go thus:

"Dernier chez mon pere, les..."

Alas, that's all I can decipher, though the word "jolie" is in there somewhere. It has a pretty, upbeat tone, which matches her hopeful mood at the moment.

I've always love this tune - does anyone know the title, source and/or where/if I could find a copy of anyone singing it?

Merci!!

I love this song!! If you search the internet you will find the notes too.

Aupres de Ma Blonde

Found in most Franco-canadien collections, such as Barbeau,
Gagnon, etc. Immensely popular among soldiers (Can, US)
during WWI

How wonderful!

I've been wanting to know these lyrics/notes for 15 years - merci for your kind reply!

Now I can sing it just like Christine - and fortunately, I live by my onesies, so no one will suffer. :)
