some questions....

1)How can a little girl have such a developed voice like that? (the flashback Christine)

2)In what way does Christine love Erik if it's different from the way she loves Philippe?

3)What was Christine's "plan" at the end? Did she mean for Erik to be shot or at least captured?

if you can answer these, please do because I confuse easily. thank you.

1) She has natural talent, astounding though it seems, and you can imagine since her father was a musician he could have helped develop her voice somewhat. She had perfect pitch, not fair to those of us who work for it, but totally legit.

2) Christine loves Erik in a fatherly way (this is taking alot from the book too). Erik is music, and Christine loves music, she confuses this pure form of love for a while thinking that she loves him as a man, but she doesn't. It's not until after she betrays him that she can realise that she loves her dear teacher, but not romantically. Her love for Philippe is much more standard, he's hot, rich, nice, he loves her, and he offers her a normal existence above ground. While romantically speaking this isn't giving up all for ture love, it's nothing to scorn at. She's only 20 after all, not really ready for a relationship with a 40 year old hermit who lives under the opera house.

3) Christine didn't want Erik captured. She sang for him that last time so he'd know that she did still love him in her way, and that way he wouldn't die (in her mind). It was the owner who had the cops waiting to capture him. Christine simply thought he's know she loved him and he'd stop the haunting. She was then going to go off with Phillipe and leave Erik.

Phillipe was not only less attractive than Erik but the count obviously was a player. No way in hell would I give up a man like Erik. Erik loved her more than life itself. Phillipe would have been happy with any other woman. So no, Phillipe did not love Christine the way Erik did.

Sorry, I disagree with this. While I much prefer this phantom to the 2004 movie one (who was a manipulative, self-pitying, immature crybaby) and think this Erik had more empathy, maturity and probably more real love for Christine, he was still unstable, and he still wanted to control her. He had no understanding of her need for a normal life, and kept insisting she live down below with him (though he gained more understanding towards the end). He was also a killer, capable of great cruelty.

Phillipe was a ladies' man, but he and Christine had a long history. They had known and been attached to each other since childhood. Because of this, I think his love for her was real, and that he wouldn't have been happy with any other woman. We can't say he didn't love her as much as Erik did.
Now whether this version of Phillipe/Raoul would be able to stay completely faithful to Christine, even though he loved her, well, that might be a different question ;)

Okay, I don't know if you're still a member of IMDb or not, but I have a question also. What was that stuff Carlotta gave her to make her voice fail? Is it the same stuff Erik gave Carlotta in the 2004 movie?
