This movie is so dated, even for the early 1990s. It came out in 1990, but feels more like 1980. The music doesn't help.

shareAs the movie was released in 1990, filming must have taken place at least in 1989. Part of the movie was filmed in Chiswick (a borough of London), of which I can assume that large-scale (or supermodern) redevelopment had not crept in there by at least 1989.
I guess that compared to 2012 and the rest of London, at least Chiswick must have still looked reasonably traditional.
It may happen that some films are released well after the end of production; for example, when all the rights to contents in the film are cleared. Another is a strategic choice of release time to make the film most accessible to the festival circuit; or a Summer release so as not to compete with big box-office fare.
At least when I remember the film, I can't really put a finger on what is it that doesn't look very modern or dated there.
Still as enjoyable as ever imo
