I hate to say this, but...

"Nikita" may actually be better than "Leon." Damn, both movies were good, but there's something extra special about "Nikita." There's no fat, no gimmicks, and pure confidence exudes from this film. Wow. Just wow.

This is definitely one of the best action films ever made! Makes me wanna watch "Fifth Element" again because the last time I saw it, which was when I was younger/naive and unappreciative of true awesomeness, I thought it sucked like most cheesy formulaic action films.

I'm picking up the DVD for this film.

Agreed! I loved Leon so much but after seeing Nikita I think I'm sold.
What I love most about Besson is he always has a strong female lead.

Nikita is probably one of my top ten action flicks, but as talented as Besson is, can't bring myself to watch The Fifth Element again (I'm only half kidding)!

Why would you hate to say that, it's true.
Both are great movies, but Nikita is a masterpiece.

Never liked Leon myself. This, however, is brillant. Sparse, gritty, great score, has a real emotional punch, and a really amazing lead character. This is kind of like one of those great Seventies crime dramas. It stands the test of time, while Leon is basically a shoot 'em up with a slightly corny father-daughter subplot. And Gary Oldman's weird, comic relief-junkie/cop character always felt a little out of place in such a serious movie. Besson peaked here.
