sometimes i watch a movie thats so bad...

it just puts me in a bad mood. so dumb. so poorly written and contrived. so mindless and blindly patriotic. it feels like the script was written by a 14 year old. and then to top it all off they start horsing around on the golf course like a less gay version of the volleyball scene in top gun. "you shouldn't have parked your car on the back 9!!". oh those boys play by their own rules

complete garbage

and whoever covered "the boys are back in town" makes nickelback look like led zep.

Oh their bad, of course Navy guys, let alone SEALs never horse around. Oh no once they are done with work they go straight to the gym then home to sleep, repeat the next day. Thank you for enlightening us to the reality, you are so well informed.

Bon Jovi covered it and thats ok because Thin Lizzy is not Led Zeppelin.

I have to agree with the OP. He/she hit the nail on the head when writing that the script had to have been written by a 14 year old.

The scene that turned me off the most (and there was a lot of competition) was the golf course scene.

Golf is a sport to be respected, for in it...is all that we stand for in a free, democratic and peaceful society.

People who think it is just a dumb sport..chasing around a little white ball will NEVER get it. It is about honor, respect, truthfulness and fair play...and self-dpscipline.

I almost gagged when I saw one of the SEALS mash a golf ball into the green with his foot.

You can't tell me you are fighting for our freedom, when you don't give a damn about the next group of golfers who will play next and be affected by your immaturity.

At that point, you aren't fighting for freedom or democracy---you are just acting out your 14 year old boy fantasies of a real life, shoot 'em up, video game!

Well said..OP!!!

The golf course scene epitomizes a true to life thing though. While it may seem to you to be childish, its not that far off of reality. The guy who wrote it may indeed have had a similar experience. The golf course in question would not be somewhere this kind of thing would happen thats for sure. Sewells Point Golf Club was and still is the hangout for Navy Elite. But in my own personal experience, golf courses are typically great places to screw around. Rota Naval Stations Golf Course gets ripped a new one pretty much every time there is an Amphib Environmental Inspection of an ESG post Deployment. Everything from Marines *beep* in Tin Cups to Squids hockey games. From Subic Bay to Kaneohe Bay and Oceanside to the Other Bay Area, Squids, Jarheads, Zoomies and Sand Baggers have been ripping up golf courses to their hearts content.

Movies like Navy SEALs and Battlefield LA dont use Golfing escapades because they are pulling it out of their ass.

Are you really serious BTW? You would frown upon them merely because they degraded a Golf Course? Calling them 14 years old because of that is kind like the pot calling the kettle black. Its petty and who gives a flying *beep*.

I just rewatched the film after about 10 years and I'd forgotten how bad it was ... or maybe my taste just got better in the last decade.. :)

Bang on. Especially the Sheen-character seems like something only a pubescent kid would come up with and find cool. This guy has got to be the stupidest and least likable hero (and I use that term loosely) ever put on the screen.

Here's a guy who:

- we're introduced to in a comatose state after a night of unspecified debauchery. Considering the actor, this could alomst be called art imitating life though, lol.
- needlessly performs stupid and highly dangerous stunts even when he's off duty.
- goes to great lengths to try and cock-block his friend and team-leader. For this, he even impersonates a higher ranking officer on the phone, something which I'd expect would be punishable by Navy-regulations.
- gets a totally pointless "action"-scene complete with ultra cheesy 80's-crap-rock trying to retrieve his car which he parked on the friggin fairway of a golf-course .. argh!
- needlessly kills people who pose no immediate threat on a supposedly stealthy mission just because, err, he likes to kill people I guess?
- disobeys direct orders on more than one occasion.
- when confronted with the fact that he's responsible for the black guy's death freaks out like a frustrated 15-year-old, yelling "what do you want from me??!?"

I don't know about the author's intentions.. are we supposed to root for this guy? I for one was hoping for his death during every single mission he was on in the film.

It came in a double DVD set with "Red Dawn", and compared to "Navy Seals", "Red Dawn" was "Platoon". This movie was written by a ten year old, granted he's an honor student, not a 14 year old. It all around sucked big time. Someone please snuff Charlie Sheen

reply

Lame opinions guys. You have to grow up with this movie in the house. Obviously, you guys are too young to care. Go back to your taken movies.

reply

Yeah, Charlie Sheen was just awesome in this one.

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

The golf scene reminds me of a beer commercial from the 80's.
I think if you like the movie, you will enjoy the scene as showing how they blow off steam, are close friends who hang together outside of work and are a family. And they make their own rules but work hard and play hard.
If you don't like the movie it's a cheesy pointless montage showing the seals as reckless drunks and they act like cliched stereotypes. The scene would be for teenage boys and is utterly ridiculous.
We all saw the same scene. I think how you take it depends on your overall view of the movie.
