Jump Start vs Hot Wire

Hannah Stubbs: And where did you learn to jump start a car?
Vincent 'Vinnie' Antonelli: I learned it in the army.

I think its pretty clear they are talking about starting a car that you don't have the keys for-- which is "hot wiring." Jump starting is when the battery has discharged and you need to hook it up to another car's battery to borrow that charge to get the engine running. Once the engine is running the dead battery will charge. But you need the key in the ignition to turn it over.

Should be a "goof" I submitted it over a year ago but IMDB has ignored it.

I think the term "jump start" was the point of the joke.

No, jump starting always refers to drawing power from a battery other than the one in the car (using jumper cables). popping the clutch is just popping the clutch. I don't know any other term for it.
