Brilliant Film

... because of the blurred gay subtext of the film. I for one wish they had been bold in that area.

I think this is a terrific, dramatic adventure film, but I doubt that it flopped because of the blurred gay subtext. If it was blurred, it wasn't going to make much of an impact, only on discerning filmgoers. Having the gay subtext handled with more clarity or boldness, may have also alienated viewers even more, considering most of the herd hold disdain for homosexuality. I thought it was subtle and carefully handled, as to what was suggested and it rang true enough for me. I'd say the film flopped, because it was something that the masses didn't care to see at the time and it may not have been marketed all that well. It relied on word of mouth.

Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests. 🍪

It's too bad because it's really good.
