What did Felix Detweiler know, what did he want? ****SPOILERS****

Was he actually in league with the Devil? He seemed to want Dr. Baker to kill Mr. Frost. I will assume then he also knew that the spirit would then inhabit Baker, right?

reply

Not how I took it, no. I assumed he was trying to keep her AWAY from Frost, for her own safety if nothing else.

What makes you think he wanted her to kill Frost? I'm just curious.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

This is from memory, because I'm too lazy to fire up the Roku and try to find the scene, but *he* brought the gun, not Baker, and he looked at her and nodded at her when she found it in his coat. He let her go when she said she needed to step out or do something or whatever it was that she said. Even afterwards he nodded to her as if he knew.

None of that seemed to indicate he was trying to stop her unless I'm missing something. I thought it was, if true, one of the most intriguing things about the film. Detweiler was a Catholic and I wondered if he wanted people to believe in Good and Evil incarnated.

i think he knew that however and whenever "it" ended for baker, it would be the death of either of them - the devil or her - and we can kinda figure out the end result. he knew she would be possessd because of her closeness with the deil.

This is where the movie kinda fell apart for me too. I agree with Pynkpanther - the look they exchanged when she reaches in his pocket and pulls out the gun was great. But then she goes off to bed, he's on the couch - and THEN you see her driving off to the asylum to face Mr. Frost. Could've been so much more tidy had they exchanged the looks, and she said 'He's drawing me in you know' and Detweiler responds 'It's the only way WE will know. I just wish I could've got to know you better is all. Our future is over either way. You do understand that now?' Then you see her driving to the asylum.

I took the look to mean that he was aknowledging that he was going to kill Frost and that is why he had the gun. She found it and he was nodding to indicate, "yes, I am going to kill him."

You did miss that when he woke up, after she had left, he went looking for the gun in his coat and was suprised to find it missing.

He knew everything except that he had the world's most horrifyingly bad wig on his head. What on earth was he wearing? How many polimer threads died to give his noggin a rug? I spent most of the movie bewitched by it. Devil? What Devil? What was the plot again?

reply

no, he was going to kill frost himself,
at one point he tells his father-in-law that he won't let frost destroy her, then he gets the gun, and it's implied he'll be stopping frost by killing him
