Who would you cast in a re-make?

Not that it especially needs one... I can't get over the film, but I can see it being taken in all sorts of new directions if they dared to try again.

Anyway, Jeff would always be my Mr. Frost. But I thought Christian Bale might do a fantastic job with the part also.

No remake needed.

I agree, no remake needed. In my opinion, it would be hard to tap into the mannerisms of Jeff Goldblum and the seeming arrogant aloofness of Kathy Baker in this.
Every character in this movie, every character, makes this movie the gem it is.

I have to agree that no remake is necessary...

I just wish they would release a widescreen, HD copy of the movie...

One feels while watching the VHS version that there is probably SO very much that is OUTSIDE THE FRAME... People's faces being cut in half & so on... (Which actually works in the film's favor a few times, but sometimes it just feels awkward.)

I don't think it 'needs' a remake, but the story is interesting it would be great to see another take on it. I've actually given this one a lot of thought and I can see the following possible casting choices:

Mr. Frost:

Viggo Mortenson. He has gravitas and a weird calmness that might suit this role.
Ed Norton. Mainly based on his terrifying performance in "Primal Fear".
Chris Eccleston. Just because he's Chris Eccleston.
Colin Farrel. Yes, his public persona is that of a druggie, skeezy jerk. But he is one of the most impressively versitile actors of his generation.

Dr. Sarah Day:

Cate Blanchett. She can do no wrong, in any genre.
Maria Bello. I didn't think anything of her until I saw her in "A History of Violence", and she blew me away.
Gina Torres. Another versitile actress. She balances tough with vulnerable beautifully.

Of course, the real problem is who would write and direct?

I agree with MOST of you. No one can out-creep Jeff. No remake needs to be made of ANY wonderful films.
The great director, John Huston, once said, "I've never understood the fascination with remaking well-made films. One should only remake poorly made films & do them correctly, this time".

I think of this movie as a HUGE diamond, but still, one in the rough. There's a lot of corny nonsense and genuinely distracting 80's froufrou (hair, jewelery, etc) that defies credulity, and also dates the movie - and not in a good way. The idea for the film is great, the casting of Jeff Goldblum is sublime, but the overall execution could absolutely be improved upon. There aren't many actors who could take on the role of Mister Frost with the disconcerting charm and menace of Goldblum, but there are a few. And a solid rewrite could enhance an already great concept.

Anthony Michael Hall as Mister Frost
As for The Doctor I keep thinking that french actress that was in Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises.

Goldblum nailed this role. Nobody could match his performance.

And yet another call for a widescreen (and/or HD) release of this, please.

I wouldn't mind seeing an updated version of this, but ONLY if they could get Jeff to reprise the role of Mr. Frost. I can't picture anybody else doing it.
