Mister Frost's reasons (spoiler)

As I wrote in another post, "Mister Frost was on one of the Starz channels the other night, and I watched much of it before falling asleep."

I had long forgotten about the film, but then it came back to me. No, I didn't see it but I remember maybe a review of it and often passed the VHS box with Jeff Goldblum on the cover in my local Blockbuster.

The character, Mister Frost, kills 24 people, including women and children, also brutally tortured them. Mister Frost claims he is Satan and did what he did in order to get the world to start believing in him again.

I didn't see the ending. So therefore, they are three possibilities: Mister Frost is indeed Satan. He is delusional and thinks he's Satan. He's lying about being Satan for his own reasons.

I don't even who wrote the screenplay and if the screenwriter is religious or not.

Regarding the first two possibilities, I think it's a stretch that people will start believing in Satan because of a serial killer's crimes. We assume that the film takes place in 1989 or 1990--a year after Ted Bundy was executed for raping and killing a number of young women. John Wayne Gacy, who was convicted of raping and murdering 33 young men, was sitting on death row in Illinois and was finally executed in 1994. Thomas Harris' novel "The Silence of the Lambs" was a bestseller. The news, daytime talk shows, and popular culture were filled with stories about serial killers.

So what would make Mister Frost different than Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, David Berkowitz (who belonged to a Satanic cult), Jack the Ripper, and others? How were his crimes unique enough in order to suspect the devil himself? My point is that serial killing had become too common at the time.

As horrible as serial killers are, there are people who have done greater evil such as Adolf Hitler, Mao Tse-Tung, and Joseph Stalin, who murdered people by the tens of millions.

If Frost is the devil, shouldn't he attempt to top the evil of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao if possible (even with nuclear weapons)?

From what I saw, I thought the acting wasn't that good. I also couldn't believe they would let a serial killer roam free on a country estate.

In the end, it showed that he was the devil.

I think that Frost didn't have the power to do anything more. The lack of belief in him weakened him, that is why he needed to accomplish his plan to get people to start doubting science and start fearing him again.

I don't think they let him do anything. Frost eventually brainwashed the staff to let him do as he pleased.
