Good movie, a lot left open

I really have to admit that I liked this film. The big problem I have is just to much of the story was left wide open. Now, I loved the ending and I haven't seen the sequels but from what I have heard that they are nowhere on par with this film. Maybe, they should have made a prequel explaining a little more of the history of the mirror. Does anyone agree a prequle would have been cool?

I think a remake of this movie would be great, and so would a prequel. They made 3 sequels for the series but they are bad (part 3 is the worst and part 2 is ok) I love this movie, it is like "heathers" meets "Carrie", with the supernational elements of the mirror. The idea of the movie is great, I think a remake would make this movie more popular.

It is hard to say whether a remake would make it more popular. The first question is, is How popular was this movie when it first came out? Did it have a theatrical release? I saw it when it came to video but I don't remember seeing any previews for it. But may be a remake would do justice to the movie and open the story up a little bit more. Obviously, it would have to be written by the original writer.

I like that everything's not spelled out. Movies that feel the need to explain themselves rarely are worthwhile (though they're often more mainstream). A prequel is certainly a better idea than either of the abysmal sequels (neither of which had anything to do with this one -- and where the mirror was discovered in 2 was completely illogical), but too much time's passed now. God knows, the way Hollywood's cycling through remakes these days, this gem could be up for one soon.

As for the question of a theatrical release, I don't think it ever got one in the States. There was, however, a tape that I used to have with a trailer on it for the first film -- I don't remember what tape though.

It might sound random, but I'd like to see a sequel or version where the main character is gay.

reply

That sounds very random. Why would you want o see that?

I think it would be interesting to see a teenage gay character who's had to deal with bullying and the the general harshness of the world suddenly have the power to make pretty much whatever he wants happen.

reply

So you can experience his vengeance vicariously? The "bullied teen/s supernaturally avenge themselves" plot line has been done to death (Carrie, The Craft, Bloody Mary) and I don't think the first movie had a good enough premise to warrant a sequel anyway (although, apparently it's had several.)

"That sound you hear, is stunned silence."

You're probably right. But there's always the chance that someone will take an idea and make something more worthwhile and complex out of it than what's been done before.

Bought the Anchor Bay set of 4 "Mirror, Mirror" pics on the cheap & not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by the 1st movie. It covers familiar ground but it does so competently and with a good cast. On par with genre pics like "Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes".
