TRAUMATIZED

I only actually saw this movie once, and that was when it first aired
on network television. (I was a worldly eleven year old.) This film
ignited the beginning of my paralyzing fear of flying. Whenever I board
a plane, I do my best to check over the exterior and interior for
anything that looks suspicious. The child pointing up at the ceiling of
the plane is stained in my brain throughout the flight. The film
certainly had an effect on me. That must count for something.

Children are impressionable. I saw a few scenes of a chucky horror film and I was intensely scared of dolls for some time. It sucked.

It was Dolly Dearest for me. I was probably somewhere between 10 and 12.

I love Chucky now, but most dolls still creep me out. It was bad as a kid though. Really bad.

(Dolly Dearest: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104119/ Way scarier than Chucky.)

I hear you on that. I saw this film once, probably when I was 10. For whatever reason, I haven't forgotten it. I got that image of the plane flying through the air with part of its roof ripped off stuck in my mind. Every time I fly, I think about that scene. It hasn't traumatized me to the point of not wanting to fly, it's just one of those things I think about when I fly and hope I never have to go through. Also, I figured it was just a movie.

Then the other day I was flipping through channels and saw some TV show about the real flight. I had NO IDEA that movie was based on a real event. I was like, "Oh my God, I think I saw a TV movie about that when I was younger!" I just think it's strange some TV movie has lasted that long in my memory.

I saw this when I was 5 and I have always remembered it. For some reason, I always thought the movie title was Airplane! and anytime I hear that movie title, I think of this movie and see the images of the people in the plane, holding on for dear life, with the roof blown off.

When I came on IMDB, I wanted to look for this movie so I typed in the summary and found it (since I didn't know the real title). I was surprised to see that it was based on a true story.

I wish they would show this movie again and other 90s based on true story movies.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I'm not alone!!!!!!!!!!

this is the movie that has kept my feet on solid ground (except for when I went on roller coasters. somehow that was less of a threat to my life). it's this movie that causes me to have panic attacks whenever I just get near an airport.

but the fact that you can get on a plane is amazing. good job overcoming the biggest part of your fear.

I was just tweeting about how I developed a solid phobia from seeing this on TV, when I was around 10.

This movie messed me up.
