Evil Dead 2 reference?

So, I was watching this movie yesterday, and something caught my eye. In the scene where Bruce Campbell's character is digging through the dirt, he notices one of the Crawlers walk in, having just lost its hand. There's a small moment where Stover looks at his own hand, and holds his wrist thoughtfully, as if to say, "Good thing I didn't lose MY hand." Considering nothing else became of this, my immediate thought was that this was a subtle Evil Dead 2 reference (since Bruce Campbell's character, Ash, does indeed lose his hand).

Anyone else notice this?
