John Heard passed away today at 72

I am so sorry to hear that John Heard has passed away. Heard, 72, who lived in Southern California passed away in a Palo Alto, CA hotel while recovery from back surgery.

John Heard was a great actor in many movies that the Dad in "Home Alone" hardly expresses that.

One of his best movies I think was "Chilly Scenes Of Winter" where he played Charles a paper shuffling civil servant who inherited a house along with the heating bills in Salt Lake City who has a love affair with Laura a directionless average woman that he obsesses about and works to get over and resolve. The movie is sad, but brilliant.

Heard also starred in "Mindwalk" a "Dinner With Andre" type philosophical conversation movie with Sam Waterston and Liv Ullman that was set in the Mont Saint Michelle offshore abbey in France.

Both these movies showed a talent and depth of acting and themes that were unique at a time when the trend has been towards remakes and vapid comic book hero movies. Rest in peace John Heard, thank you for those memorable and thoughtful movies you contributed to.
