Why is there no DVD for this movie?

Cannot find it at Netflix; Amazon has VHS copies for $32.
I am never buying another VHS.....

Who could I go ask to release this as a DVD?

What is all this talk about the internet providing a long tail for products that are not block busters? Apparently this film fell off the edge.

TIA for any assistance,
carson

I've been wondering the same thing. I hope it will be released on DVD soon, as I just love this movie. It's one of my favorites. Perhaps you could check with Paramount?

I too would like to have a DVD of this film. I could not find it on Netflix and was so disappointed. I really do not want a VHS tape. Please, can't someone tell us how to get this on DVD???

I got my DVD on Ebay, too. Not a very good copy visually, but the dialogue is still there!

I wish it was released on DVD legitimately - in all it's cinematic glory.

Now Amazon has two copies, one at $70, the other at $100. I will wait for something to come up on eBay, or for the studio release, if that ever happens. I want to see the movie, but seventy to one hundred bucks for that opportunity? I don't think so.

when we look at how few of us are asking or interested in this question...it shows why the studio has not released a dvd...i have attempted to e-mail the studio and get no reply...
possibly if enough interest is shown they will release one?...or if we can get enough interest shown to Fritof?...otherwise it is copies of VHS to dvd?

reply

I agree - the studies won't re-release (in any form) without enough interest. I just heard about this movie today, but it sounds fascinating. I've written to Netflix to see what their response is. I'll also contact the studio. I'd recommend that anyone else interested in a DVD of this movie do the same.

It is not easy to find Paramount contact information!

I located this at their film clip licensing page:

Paramount Properties
Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products
Fax: 323.862.2231, Phone: 323.956.5184

at least it's a start!

If anyone has a more direct phone or email, please post it here.

I'm a recent convert to this film. It's absolutely outstanding. I wanted to purchase several copies of this to give to my team and can't find it except in an outdated format. I would be interested in a DVD copy from anyone who wants to create it. It's worth the effort. Thanks, D

I have a DivX copy of this - the quality is excellent. I'd be more than happy to convert it to full DVD for you & post it to you. All you have to do is cover my costs.

Gimme a shout if that sounds acceptable.

This would be a perfect Criterion release, preferably with some extras, to be placed right beside My Dinner With Andre on one's home movie shelf.

At the very least, someone could make it available as a made-on-demand DVD, as Warner Archive has been doing to great success with a splendid array of older & offbeat films.
