John Turturro.

Shows you how it's done.

He is awesome in this - but almost everyone was.

I honestly felt Gabriel Byrne was kinda flat. Most boring performance in the film.

reply

Really?

I thought that Byrne was fabulous - laid back, intelligent, second-in-command, not really wanting to be the boss, but reluctantly being forced to take action, and with a lot of luck coming out on top.

Couldn't imagine or want anyone else in the role, or playing it any differently.

Turturro made Bernie 'When you smart me you spoil it.' Bernbaum a treasure chest of nuance, gesture and voice...
Look into your heart gets me every time..
But lets not forget Jon "You got a lip on you kid' Polito and Albert (sucking on a straw)Finny (at short notice)...The Coen's don't give feedback and get amazing performances all the time everywhere you look..They do all the hard work in the casting and then respect what the actors bring and sit back and enjoy it....
A hint here or there but that is the way to do it...total respect...

The old man is still an artist with a Thompson...

I guess they were trying to go for "sociopathic" with Gabriel burns but it came off dull, not heartless. which is surprising because the Coen brothers usually have perfect casting

reply

They were going for the taciturn noir hero. Now, Byrne is no Bogart, but he does a good job at playing the noir world hero.
