The hat during opening titles

There's a great shot of the hat sitting on leaves, perfectly centered in the frame with the title of the movie above.... Then it blows away... How'd they achieve this? Its easy to say they used a big fan, but none of the leaves are blowing.

You could also guess that they pulled it on a string, but it keeps blowing away into the distance with no person pulling a string in sight.

I'd have tended to have believed it was CGI, however this film preceedes CGI.

Well, they still could have used a string. Make a curve around a tree or something and the guy that pulls it could be placed outside the frame. I was wondering the same thing though, funny.

I read somewhere that it was a "Carefully placed string", whatever that means lol... Im sure they had ways to such things. Its Hollywood and the Coens are buffs, they know the tricks of the trade

Just watched this film for the first time. I thought that hat shot cool, and I had the same question as well.
