Wow this guy stumbles into a lot of crimes

It seems like every time Alec Baldwin is walking down the street someone is getting mugged, in every store he goes in an armed robbery is being committed and every restaurant he eats in is being heisted.

I thought that was odd too. Maybe Miami is really that crime ridden.

After all, the movie isn't supposed to be realsitic or taken too seriously. It's a quirky black comedy!

Yeah it´s strange that under the "genre" section on the main page, "comedy" isn´t even listed although that´s what it is, arguably, above all (it should be mentioned though that a lot of the time, the film isn´t really sure what it is or wants to be, presenting a mixture of tones that´s hardly seamless or smooth). Nothing much to this film overall, but at least it´s offbeat fun and looks handsome in sunny Miami.

Miami went up in crime 200% one year, a little over a decade ago. 200%!

So, it may not be that crime-ridden but it is pretty insane.

I think the point was he was a criminal who knew what to look for and where. He picked up on little clues like the two guys who were about to do the drug deal (then robbed them).

I thought about that at first, but that explanation really doesn't fly. For example, he's in the store buying whipped cream and some guy robs it, or he's walking down the street and a purse snatcher grabs the woman's bag, or he's sitting in the cafe and a guy comes in and robs it an gun point. He wasn't picking up subtle clues to encounter these crimes, he was just there and they happened. Most people will not see such dramatic things in their whole lives, but everywhere he goes this stuff is magically going on all around him.

True, but as someone else already mentioned, it is a black comedy. It may not be very realistic, but its still pretty damn entertaining.

Very good. But brick not hit back!

I thought the same thing. But the movie is a dark comedy so I think that's kinda part of the joke.

Jimmy Carter changed the tone of the 80's movies. Nice area until 1980, '81.
