Still Whit Stillman's best film to date

I know some will disagree as Last Day's of Disco has a lot of fans. But something about Metropolitan that Stillman never has quite reached again, it's got a sweetness to it and the script is just pitched perfect. The performances from mostly first timer's is pretty damn good, especially from Carolyn Farina, if this was released today she would have become a big star. But she's by far Stillman's most likeable character, and relationship between Audrey and Tom Townsend is rather sweet, even though Tom is a bit of a dick as he's so blissfully ignorant that Audrey loves him.

Also major prop's to Chris Eigeman as Nick, a character who could have been dislikeable but in Eigeman's hand's he's turns out to be a likeable guy. Love the ending to this, not every character is likeable and some of the group are dickish.

I liked Barcelona and Last Day's of Disco has it's charms, mostly having Kate Beckinsale's best performance to date. Damsel in Distress is his worse film, that even Greta Gerwig or the appearance of Carolyn Farina can't save. Love and Friendship was a slight return to form, with another great Beckinsale performance (she should stick with Stillman). But Metropolitan is still the definitive Stillman film.
