Love these, have worn the VHS's out (especially Maniac Cop 2).

reply

no i don't i hate no:2 why thee hell did they kill off jack forrest-bruce campbell that's rubbish i think he should of been the hero of all 3 of them

reply

possiblly Campbell didn't want to be in all three movies, so they kill him in begining of part 2.

That is my guess, it's not true reason.

I'm a huge fan of the first two "Maniac Cop" movies, but didn't care for the disappointingly lackluster third one.

Q: What's the biggest room in the world? A: The room for improvement.

I've recently watched the first two movies and liked them. I thought the sequel was great! I haven't seen part 3 yet though. Matt Cordell was one ugly sucker in Maniac Cop 2!

I love the first 2 Maniac Cop movies, but haven't seen the third. They have a great premise and decent acting for B movies. I just wish Bruce Campbell would have had a larger role in this series.

I've only seen the Original and thought it was pretty good.

I love Maniac Cop and consider it one of my favourite horror films - I love the action scenes, the cast (especially Sheree North and Tom Atkins), the suspense (such as the first scene with a young girl running up to the maniac cop for help), the way the panic is portrayed, etc. A unique and underrated entry into the slasher genre.

I was not not nearly as impressed with Maniac Cop 2. The writing seems weaker here, and Matt Cordell isn't quite the same character (and his psycho sidekick just annoyed me). Bruce Campbell and Laurene Langdon were basically thrown away - it's not so much that they are killed off, but more that they feel like flat leftovers from the first one. I did enjoy Maniac Cop 2 overall, but I don't think it is in the same league as its predecessor. The scene with Matt appearing on the shooting range is excellent.

Maniac Cop 3 was my introduction to the series, and the thing I liked best about it were the flasbacks.

One was good, Two was GREAT! Three was forgettable.

I just watched the first and second back to back, and I've gotta say the second was quite a lot better. I'm a huge fan of Bruce Campbell too and was a bit disappointed at first when he was killed off, but I got over it quickly. Almost every element of the second is a step above the first: the acting, characters, dialog, pacing, photography, effects, action, and thankfully cordell's make-up. Now I'm not saying the first one wasn't pretty great too, but the second just totally trumped it imo.

Cordell's makeup was awful in the second one. It looked so rubbery.

The second one is also pretty overwrought in many respects - from Leo Rossi's acting to the over the top finale. It may be bigger and louder than the first one, but they first one has a tighter grip on the myth and the theme. It actually takes time to consider the implications of a maniac cop on the loose (panic, tension between citizens and law enforcers), where the second one is just a zombie and his serial killer buddy on a rampage.

I'll also take Tom Atkins' Frank McCrae over Robert Davi's Det. Sean McKinney any day.
