floating away canoe scene (spoilers)

I read the book years ago and finally ran across this movie in one of those 10 movie adventure pack dvd's they sell in those racks at the grocery store. I've had some really good luck finding movies that aren't readily found anywhere else, so stop and give the titles a look next time you pass them in the store.

Anyway, being an avid outsdoorsman and canoe enthusiast, I've had my share of mishaps out in the middle of nowhere.

And take my advice, if the canoe gets away from you and is leisurely floating away not that far from shore, like it is (at first) on the river in this movie, but you think the water is too cold to jump in after it--think again. To warm yourself up again after bringing the canoe back to shore is nothing to walking all the way back to where you came from, especially if all your gear is in that canoe. Of course I'm assuming you know how to swim, otherwise you have a long, hard walk ahead of you!!

Sure, hypothermia is serious business and never take the risk of it lightly, but hopefully you've got matches--in that canoe--and if you warm up immediately after getting back to shore, it usually doesn't become life threatening.

I know that needed to happen to propel the plot through the rest of the movie, but that canoe is maybe your only lifeline back when you are that far from any road or village, as the two chaps in the movie find out.

Now if I can find the sequel, I'll be set.

Class dismissed, now go out and enjoy, responsibly and safely, and always keep that survival kit strapped to you, it does no good floating away down the river as well. (from one who knows!!)...
