The cave monster

I'm surprised no one has brought up the monster.

It was obvious there was something in the cave and it looked human. Isn't it possible that it was the adult who disappeared? I haven't read the book so unsure about what it really is.

In the book, as well as the 1963 film, the "Beast" was actually a dead pilot hanging from a tree by a parachute. The boys would see the parachute flapping in the wind and thought it was the "Beast". This is completely ignored in the 1990 film. The 1963 film is FAR better than the 1990 version. The metaphor of the Beast/Evil, which was in reality Jack and his increasingly insane followers turned murderers.

The 1990 versions skips over the main theme of the novel, which is inexcsable. Watch the 1963 version if you want to see a great film that is true to Golding's novel.

It was an obvious human's helmet though.

Interesting. I have never read the book, nor seen the 1963 or 1990 version, but i had both in my watchlist for a longtime and tonight decided to give the 90's version a shot and boy was i horrified. What a terrible human tale, one of the darkest i've ever seen. I will obviously watch the 63 version as it seems to be preferred to this one, but as far as i'm concerned, this movie is very compelling, so much so that i gave it a 9/10. I have no idea how the previous movie conveyed the themes of the novel nor if it was more or less faithful to it (according to you guys and everybody, 63 is the way to go) than this one, but this version really managed to take me by the guts and its philosophical subtext and overall allegory for human nature as a whole isn't lost on me. A beautiful yet terrifying image we can see in this mirror of human civilization.

My point being, i don't know what the book or the previous version of the movie look like, but i would disagree with whoever propounds that this movie was devoid of substance in terms of universal themes and human patterns that transcend space and time.

I gotta say i was rather surprised by the ratings here, 6.4 as of now, i gave it a 9 and expected to see something around 7.5 on here. Anyway, yes, i will watch the 63 take on the novel ASAP.
