were they gay

hey are there gay guys in this movie?

reply

soemone asked Bruce Davison that in an interview and he said, 'maybe there were and maybe there weren't'
so, its interesting that straight men can play gay men so well...Bruce Davison, example, as a straight man, is amazing in this film...totally beleivable as a gay man dying of AIDS

reply

Bruce Davison's character wasn't dying of AIDS. His lover was.

reply

Bruce Davison did die, howveer...His lover died first

reply

Yeah, but you didn't see him die, or even get sick.

I've just rewatched it, and it was amazing to notice how many actors who have now achieved big-time success played tiny roles in this movie. And some of them have since publicly come out as gay, so there obviously were gay men in the cast.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

reply

Is that a surprise? I think at the time they got who they could. This picture barely got made and then it aired on PBS. It did not get a big theatrical release. Just as " And the Band Played On " premiered on HBO for the same reason even though it did have big name stars.

reply

mojo, both of them got cinema releases outside the US.

and no, of course it's not a surprise. I was simply affirming that there were actors in the movie who are gay in real life, and not just in the crowd scenes in Fire Island or NY.

Nope, no gay charectors in the film and none of the actors were gay either.

reply

Not entirely correct. Mark Lamos is openly gay.

reply

Yeah - Mark Lamos is GAY.

The rest were straight - and no scene reveals that better than when Patrick Cassidy and John Dossett embrace after Patrick's character reveals he has been hired by the Soap Opera:

the two actors embrace, but Patrick turns his head away from John's face!

Had that been two REAL gay guys, a mouth-to-mouth kiss would have been automatic.
