A glammed up Whoopi is pretty damn hot

This is a very good American period drama. It also was an excellent showcase for Whoopi as a alluringly charismatic leading lady. She is hot at certain points in the film in a classy way.
Another interesting point about the film was the casting. It was the first real look at Ving Rhames and Dwight Schultz on the big screen. Fascinating where their careers ended up. Ving is a household name(and trivial pursuit answer) while Dwight is third chair on a conservative talk radio program.

Of course Sissy is great as a grand Southern Dame.

I'll probably watch it again.

I'm glad you think so. Have you ever seen Corrina, Corrina? Whoopi cleans up nicely, and I find it amusing when people talk about her looks as I've never thought she was bad looking like some claim. I grew up watching her and loving her movies so I may be biased. I've always thought she was pleasant to look at and rather pretty when she glams up as you put it. Trying to look at it objectively I think she is more plain looking than flat out unattractive, she just doesn't dress up and wear makeup often. She has such a warm smile too. I also think in this movie she looked her age/younger. So in movies where she's allowed to not play that type of character like in Sarafina, Corrina Corrina, The Long Walk Home, even Ghosts of Mississippi, then it's easier for people to see. Perhaps it's because those characters have to portray a dignity, they carry themselves well and have to have poise so others must take notice.

Rest in peace Sherman Hemsley. You will be missed.

She also looked good in sister act 1.

Indeed she did. Loved her wig too, haha. I think if she had eyebrows that might change perspectives a bit. Maybe.

Yes - Whoopi was quite cute, and Sissy was gorgeous. Both women are not classic beauties, but are attractive.
