Why was it hard for alot of people back then to see from the other side?

I'm sure the lawmakers that made separate but equal would not had liked to be treated how it was set for minorities.

Why was it hard "back then"? Look around you, it's still damn near impossible for a lot of people to put themselves in other shoes! If you have any doubts, look for comments before, during and after the elections. Racist, bigoted, homophobic, sexist comments everywhere.

Well said. Racism is alive and well today too. I have a friend who married someone of the other race and you wouldn't believe the things people have said. Even her children are targets.

Yes, ADA...etc is on the books, but people still honestly tell me that they cannot believe I can read!---despite having earned masters degree. A state employee told me that I did work even though I had my earnings forms showing what I earned.

I have to live, work in the parts of my city which are public transit accessible and when the bus goes on strike--unless I do get ride, I am limited.
