The one thing I did not like abou t this film...(Spoiler)

The one thing I did not like abou t this film was the end when Richard marches Lisa into the candle lit bedroom to assault and kill her. He left the mother on the floor knocked unconcious. Was there anybody who did not expect the Mom to wake up and attack Richard from behind? It was just too obvious!

How I would have done the ending...

Mom comes home listens to the messages. Richard attacks her and she grabs for the keys with the mace, but he knocks them out of her hand onto the floor and drags her into another room.

Lisa comes home. She see the keys and mace laying on the floor rather than by the answering machine where her mom usually puts them. She picks them up and absent-mindedly slips them into her pocket. She looks for her mom and is grabbed by Richard, who tells her he found her scrapbook and understands her game. He marchs her ito the candle lit bedroom telling her he loves her and is goiing to kill her.

In the room the mom is tied up in a chair and gagged with the idea she will have to watch what Richard does to Lisa before she is killed herself (this gives the killer some reason to keep her alive until Lisa shows up). When Lisa is pushed down on the bed, however, mom goes crazy and manages to knock the chair she is tied to over. This distracts Richard long enough for Lisa to get the mace out of her pocket and use it on him.

Richard stumbles away while Lisa races over and gets mom partly untied. Richard goes after her and Lisa runs from the room. He would go after her, but mom is using her one untied hand to untie herself and Richard goes over to restrain her. As he is doing this Lisa comes back and gets him from behind with the knife. As he works on taking the knife out Lisa gets mom fully untied and they both lock themselves in Lisa's room. The rest proceeds as in the original script.

Well, that's just my idea for an alternate sequence that I feel is less obvious.

^^That is ABSOLUTELY a more believable way of ending this movie.

I must say your version sounds a bit better. Especially in answering the question why would the killer keep the mother alive until the girl gets home. Otherwise, it would have made more sense for the killer to kill the mother before the girl arrives.

You should do a screen play. That is brilliant.
