One thing I admire about the plot:

Plots can be VERY generic especially in Van Damme movies (like the revenge theme of Kickboxer).

When his brother was murdered I was totally expecting the movie to be a revenge story about him hunting down the murderers but instead the murderers were apprehended and the murder was just a plot device to put him in a situation where he needed to raise money to help his brother's family.

It was just nice to not follow the standard formula so obviously.
